The Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME)
The Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME) is the innovation portal for the manufacturing industry to access all of the Ohio State University assets in business, engineering, and applied science. CDME is to be The Ohio State Universities preeminent leader in innovative applied research for product design, technology commercialization, and manufacturing for industry. The center is staffed with diverse professionals ranging from former business leaders and entrepreneurs to practicing engineers. The center utilizes existing equipment to support industry and university research community with market validation, design feasibility, commercialization, manufacturing scale and workforce development programs. CDME's operational model is underpinned by four key values: Multi-industry collaboration, technology and product commercialization, workforce development, and regional economic growth.
CDME was developed to meet the translational research needs of the university’s external partners. The center was funded initially via a $6.8M federal grant and by the College of Engineering to ensure that university innovation provides a unique environment where large multinational organizations and university researchers can work collaboratively to identify and commercialize technologies that will provide a direct impact on the commercial manufacturing industry.
Honda has been a member of CDME since 2014.
