With the goal of recognizing superior STEM scholarship, the Honda-Ohio State STEM Award (Formally known as Math Medal) program was also created to increase interest in the profession of engineering as a career choice for graduating seniors. In addition, the scholarships offer incentive for students interested in engineering careers to pursue their higher education goals at The Ohio State University's College of Engineering and their future employment goals at Honda.

Each spring, more than 300 public and private high schools in central, western and southwestern Ohio are invited to select their best senior STEM scholar to receive the annual Honda-Ohio State STEM Award. In addition to the award, STEM Award recipients interested in an engineering career can apply for a $3,000 scholarship at The Ohio State University's College of Engineering.
